Golden Chi Milk

Golden Milk, is a beverage which has been thought to aid in reducing inflammation in the body.  Golden Milk Chi Latte is my version of this drink.  The ingredient which gives the milk its golden color  is turmeric; which has been reported to be a very powerful anti-inflammatory spice ( note: my version may not be as yellow because of the other spices).  It is widely believed in the medical community, that inflammation is the root of most, if not, all diseases.  Therefore, reducing inflammation in the body is very beneficial.

Other ingredients like ginger ( an anti-oxidant) and cinnamon (helps regulate blood sugar) are also beneficial to the body.  The black pepper and coconut oil  aids the body in utilizing the curcumin found in turmeric.  Curcumin is thought to destroy cancer cells and helps cells function in a healthy manner.

I find this to be a soothing beverage to have before going to bed.

This recipe is for one cup-using dried spices. (double amount if using fresh)

1/4 tsp Turmeric (will color items yellow so proceed with caution)

1/4 tsp Ginger

1/8 tsp Cinnamon

1/2 -1 Packet Stevie (depending on how sweet you like it)or  1/2 Tbsp raw honey  or your favorite sweetener to taste

1 C Coconut Milk or milk of your choice

1/2 tsp Extra virgin coconut oil

1/8 tsp Vanilla

Pinch of Black Pepper (to aid absorption)

Pinch to 1/8 tsp each of ground clove, nutmeg, & allspice (These spices give it the chi flavor. They can be omitted along with the vanilla to make the basic golden milk)

1-2 Tbsp Water

Combine all the dry spices in a sauce pan with the water  and stir till dissolved.  Place on a low to medium flame and stir constantly till water is gone  and a paste is formed.  Add milk and simmer for 15 minutes continuing to stir constantly dissolving the paste.  After 15 minutes add vanilla & coconut oil, remove from the fire, strain and Enjoy!  To froth, place strained mixture in blender and blend a few seconds (note: the turmeric may stain your blender ).
